Sweet currently serves as the\u00a0E. Stanley Jones\u00a0Professor of Evangelism at Drew Theological School at\u00a0Drew University, in\u00a0Madison, New Jersey; and a Visiting Distinguished Professor at\u00a0George Fox University\u00a0in\u00a0Portland, Oregon. Sweet is ordained in the\u00a0United Methodist Church.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#14171a; font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt; background-color:white\">He has written this statement:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#14171a; font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt; background-color:white\"><strong><em>The paradox of our digital age: the greater our connectedness, the greater our loneliness and depression.<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">I feel he is pointing out a great truth in our culture today.  We can connect with others through these social media platforms:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">Facebook<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">Twitter<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">Instagram<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">Pinterest<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">LinkedIn<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">Each of these sites shows how many followers the account holder is connected to in the application.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">For instance, Leonard Sweet has 37,000+ followers on Twitter.  I have 27 followers on Twitter.  This shows that Sweet is much more well known around the world that I am.  This does not mean that Sweet knows the background of his many followers as I do the people who follow me.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Verdana; font-size:16pt\">Cyber connections can&#8217;t replace direct one-on-one connections in our lives.  A cyber friend can&#8217;t hug you.  They can&#8217;t notice of you are smiling or frowning.
