{"id":268,"date":"2014-07-31T22:20:06","date_gmt":"2014-08-01T07:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/?p=268"},"modified":"2014-07-31T02:20:19","modified_gmt":"2014-07-31T11:20:19","slug":"july-31-the-power-of-taste","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/?p=268","title":{"rendered":"July 31 &#8211; The Power of Taste"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"shariff\" data-title=\"July 31 &#8211; The Power of Taste\" data-info-url=\"http:\/\/ct.de\/-2467514\" data-backend-url=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/plugins\/shariff-sharing\/backend\/index.php\" data-temp=\"\/tmp\" data-ttl=\"60\" data-service=\"gftr\" data-services='[\"googleplus\",\"facebook\",\"twitter\",\"reddit\",\"info\"]' data-image=\"\" data-url=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/?p=268\" data-lang=\"en\" data-theme=\"colored\" data-orientation=\"horizontal\"><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/cake.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-269\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/cake.jpg\" alt=\"cake\" width=\"121\" height=\"121\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As many of you know some medicines that people take on a prescription basis effect the sense of taste and foods that once tasted wonderful no longer taste nearly as good. \u00a0Patient&#8217;s tell me their stories along this line quite frequently. \u00a0Recently a patient who was able to cease taking medicine because her illness was in remission suddenly had her sense of taste &#8220;return to normal&#8221;. \u00a0I saw her in the hallway and she gave me a big hug as she said, <strong>&#8220;I can taste chocolate cake again and it is heavenly!&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0I love being able to celebrate victories of recovery with those who I have know when their illness seemed like it had control of them. \u00a0This patient felt she had her life back partly because she could again enjoy her favorite food. \u00a0This brings me to a larger concept. \u00a0In many visits patients share with me &#8220;victories&#8221; they have achieved. \u00a0I respond with excitement to each one of them as a way to affirm the patient in the healing process.<\/p>\n<p>Try offering affirmation in as many situations as you can.
