Collaboration &#8211; All for the Good of the Patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"shariff\" data-title=\"August 27 &#8211; Collaboration &#8211; All for the Good of the Patients\" data-info-url=\"http:\/\/ct.de\/-2467514\" data-backend-url=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/plugins\/shariff-sharing\/backend\/index.php\" data-temp=\"\/tmp\" data-ttl=\"60\" data-service=\"gftr\" data-services='[\"googleplus\",\"facebook\",\"twitter\",\"reddit\",\"info\"]' data-image=\"\" data-url=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/?p=374\" data-lang=\"en\" data-theme=\"colored\" data-orientation=\"horizontal\"><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/table-seated.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-375\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/table-seated.jpg\" alt=\"table seated\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/table-seated.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/table-seated-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our weekly meeting in Hospice for the staff is titled \u201cTeam Meeting\u201d.\u00a0 It is the only opportunity all week where the nurses, administrators, social worker, medical director and chaplain are in the same place.\u00a0 We review those patients who have been admitted and those who have been discharged.\u00a0 We also discuss patients that have a change in condition.\u00a0 This conversation has the sole goal for us to provide all the appropriate resources available to the patient and family members and\/or care-givers.\u00a0 This week I had two patients that I needed additional consultation on to help me make sense of what I was observing.\u00a0 This week two staff asked me specific questions on how I handle situations with patients from the perspective of chaplaincy.\u00a0 I told them the best way to describe me to a patient is, <strong>\u201cA companion on the journey who will show empathy and affirmation.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong>They were surprised because they would not have on their own chosen those words to describe how I support families and patients.<\/p>\n<p>Being someone who gives affirmation and shows empathy is not something only chaplains are capable of doing.\u00a0 Most of us have those tools.\u00a0 The question is how often do we think to use them?\u00a0 I hope reading this post helps you keep affirmation and empathy at the top of the list of how you support the people you encounter whether you find them as part of your employment or in a leisure setting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
