A Tribute to My Aunt Edna"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"shariff\" data-title=\"Feb. 3 &#8211; A Tribute to My Aunt Edna\" data-info-url=\"http:\/\/ct.de\/-2467514\" data-backend-url=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/plugins\/shariff-sharing\/backend\/index.php\" data-temp=\"\/tmp\" data-ttl=\"60\" data-service=\"gftr\" data-services='[\"googleplus\",\"facebook\",\"twitter\",\"reddit\",\"info\"]' data-image=\"\" data-url=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/?p=696\" data-lang=\"en\" data-theme=\"colored\" data-orientation=\"horizontal\"><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Aunt-Edna.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Aunt-Edna-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"Aunt Edna\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Aunt-Edna.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/cms.shelquist.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Aunt-Edna-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today my Aunt, Edna Grace Robinson, died after a battle with several illnesses.\u00a0 At the time of her death she was under the care of a hospice program.\u00a0 During my formative years Edna was always a person I could turn to for affirmation, support and even protection.\u00a0 She did not have an easy life in that she faced many struggles most of us would want to avoid.\u00a0 She raised her children as a single mother following her divorce.\u00a0 In addition to working her job in town she tended to the livestock she raised before going to work in morning and coming home from work in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She was auditor of the bank where she worked when the FDIC closed the bank due to underperforming agricultural loans and depositors were issued checks for the insured amounts of their deposits.\u00a0 Her accounting was so precise the FDIC hired her to work for them during the transition and collecting the outstanding loans.\u00a0 All of this took place several years before she had planned to retire.\u00a0 She did not seek employment following that chapter in her life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She lived her whole life in Monroe County, Iowa where her funeral will be held.\u00a0 I won\u2019t be blogging until Monday because of my attending her services.\u00a0 I was hesitant to make the long trip from Maryland to Iowa.\u00a0 Her services fell on a weekend where I had several significant commitments.\u00a0 I was able to find direct flights from Washington DC National Airport that will allow me to attend the funeral and keep all my scheduled events.\u00a0 My making this flight to her services is just one sign of the degree to which I love her and value her in my life.\u00a0 Future trips to Iowa will not be same with her not being alive any more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
